Support to Keep Your Home Warm on Skye


Keeping your home warm, understanding energy bills, and navigating heating systems can feel overwhelming—especially with rising costs and changing technology. The good news is, there is free, local support available right here on Skye.



Who are ALIenergy?


ALIenergy is a long-established, independent charity that’s been supporting communities for over 25 years. Originally set up by Argyll and Bute Council, their work focuses on:


  • Reducing fuel poverty

  • Providing energy advice and education

  • Supporting community energy projects


And .. they now work across the Highlands too, with dedicated Affordable Warmth Advisors covering Skye and Lochalsh.




What support is available?


ALIenergy offers a free and confidential Affordable Warmth Service for households across Skye and Lochalsh.


This includes:



Home visits or phone support


Friendly, one-to-one help—either in your home or over the phone—tailored to your situation.



Help in a crisis


If you’re struggling right now, support may include:


  • Fuel vouchers or emergency payments

  • Help with fuel deliveries

  • Essential appliances (where needed)

  • Other practical support to get you through




Ongoing energy advice


You can get help with things like:


  • Understanding your heating system, hot water, and appliances

  • Making sense of your energy bills

  • Reducing damp and condensation

  • Setting up and managing online energy accounts

  • Switching tariffs or suppliers

  • Getting onto schemes like the Warm Home Discount or Priority Services Register



There’s also growing support for:


  • Moving from older systems like RTS meters to smart meters

  • Understanding newer technologies like air source heat pumps and solar panels

  • Navigating more complex tariffs linked to these systems




Connecting you to further support


If needed, ALIenergy can also link you in with:


  • Scottish Government insulation and heating schemes

  • Financial advice services like Citizens Advice

  • Housing support or health services

Anyone living in Skye and Lochalsh can use this service.

It’s completely free, impartial, and confidential.

Yes—absolutely. If you know someone who could benefit, you can refer them.


Local organisations, community groups, and individuals are all welcome to make referrals.
